FINE ARTS
An important part of our classical, Christian liberal arts and sciences education is our fine arts program. All Providence students study the foundational and universal languages of music and visual art, and have the option to deepen their studies of these subjects in upper grades if they choose. Studying music and art provides a well-rounded education and acknowledges the good, true, and beautiful in this world.
Music
Music awakens the soul to God and our program’s mission is to engage every age group with their call to glorify God through worship. Providence teaches the language of music with the hope that our students will use it to further the Kingdom of God.
“Therefore will I praise thee, and thy faithfulness, O God, playing upon an instrument of music: unto thee will I sing upon the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel. My lips will be glad when I sing unto thee; and so will my soul whom thou hast delivered.”
Psalm 71: 21-22
Visual Art
Primary School (K-2) students study art history and enjoy weekly art projects in their classrooms based on their current literature reading. Grammar School (3-6) students study master paintings from pre-Renaissance to modern art. Students create art throughout the school year based on the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, providing a foundation for creating and appreciating artwork.
Upper School (7-12) students may choose art class as an elective, which provides the opportunity to deepen their affections for art in a longer, weekly class that offers the study of art history as well as a variety of projects using various mediums.
Upper School Electives
In addition to Music, all 7th-12th grade students select a fine arts elective class. The 2025/2026 elective class options are featured below.
Art
Students will explore working with different mediums, including pencil, charcoal, paint, textiles, and photography to create unique visual art pieces. Students will study master artists from impactful periods of art history to draw inspiration for their artwork. Some students may also help with photography and layout/design of the yearbook.
